A trip to Antigua would be incomplete without a little visit to St John’s – the capital of the island.

I visited outside of the main hours most visitors on the island tend to visit – unintentionally I might add, I just happened to have rented a car and subsequently decided to make the most of it. What followed when we arrived is what I can only describe as a slightly overwhelmingly heady mix of sounds, sights and colours. The hustle and bustle in St John’s town was a far cry from the relaxing resort life I’d kinda grown accustomed to over the past few days and I have to admit, I was kinda into it. Initially, I wasn’t sure what was going on and I refused to take any photos as I was trying my best to fit in (hence why I don’t have any photos from the market place or the main streets) but after a couple of minutes, you settle in and start to embrace how alive the capital city is.

I did return to St John’s for about 30 minutes in the morning a few days later and it felt so different. Without a doubt, late in the evening is definitely the most exciting time to visit St Johns, although check with your hotel first as you’ll probably end up driving back at night. Unless of course if you arrive on a cruise ship in which case your ships arrives at St John’s and so you can pretty much do whatever you want! 🙂
